P. Shiv Shankar, the former Union Minister and former Governor for Sikkim and Kerala, on Saturday joined Padmabhushan Dr. Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party. (15-11-2008)

    P.Shiv Shankar was made as Chairman for Praja Rajyam Party’s Election Manifesto Committee as well as the Chairman for Praja Rajyam Party’s Legal cell. (15-11-2008)

    Shiv Shankar was a close aide of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and served as a Cabinet Minister in her Government. He also served as a minister in Rajiv Gandhi and P.V.Narasimha Rao Governments. Subsequently, he served as Governor of Kerala and Sikkim.

    P. Shiv Shankar, however, quit the Congress ahead of the 2004 elections. He stayed away from active politics for the last four years.

His son Dr. Vinay Kumar is a key member of Chiranjeevi’s inner circle even before the launch of Praja Rajyam Party and continues to be its core committee member. Now, Shiv Shankar too joined PRP giving Chiranjeevi the much-needed boost.

“It is a matter of privilege for us to have a leader of Shiv Shanker’s stature with Praja Rajyam Party. He brings in his enormous political experience which will guide us in the right direction”, Chiranjeevi remarked while formally welcoming Punjala Shiv Shanker into his party.
