The Praja Rajyam on Sunday expressed fears that the ruling Congress party would allow political vendetta to take centre-stage in weeding out bogus ration cards.

It demanded an all-party meeting to discuss a fair and open strategy to weed out the 30 lakh bogus cards.

At a press conference here Kakinada Rural MLA K. Kanna Babu and party spokesman J. Gautham said unless a clear methodology was adopted to cancel bogus cards, there was every possibility of officials conniving with Congress leaders and targeting those who were not party supporters and denying them ration cards.

Mr. Kanna Babu said an investigation was required to establish how many of those who got ‘bogus’ cards were also sanctioned Indiramma houses, old age and other pensions.

He said screening of beneficiaries of schemes like ration cards, pensions and Indiramma houses needed to be done in a scientific manner sans political interference.

The Praja Rajyam leaders also expressed concern over the inadequate availability of seed, specially with the onset of monsoon and kharif operations.
