The Praja Rajyam leadership is finding itself in a piquant situation with differing opinions being aired within over the party’s take on alliances, with the elections to local bodies in mind.

Ever since the results of the general elections came out and talk of polls to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation gaining ground, there is an increased interest into the game plan of the Praja Rajyam. While the official refrain from the party has been that it was yet to crystallise any electoral arrangement with any political party, it has not put an end to speculation.

T. Devender Goud has ruled out an alliance with Congress, Telugu Desam, or Telangana Rashtra Samithi. When reminded that this only left the Left parties, Lok Satta and Bharatiya Janata Party, he sought to put an end to the discussion by saying that the Praja Rajyam’s Political Affairs Committee had unanimously resolved to agree to any decision on the issue that the president took.

K. Vidyadhar Rao has been quoted in the media as having said that the need for ensuring that votes did not split between different parties, by putting a check to the Congress and the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.

With this in mind, he said that a discussion on a ‘seat adjustment’ between the Praja Rajyam and TDP only for the GHMC elections was well in order.

Most party seniors, specially those who migrated from the TDP are all busy consolidating their earlier strength in their constituencies, while the first-time MLAs too, are in their constituencies, thanking their voters. They have not been very vocal in expressing their views over the issue of electoral alliances.

Clearly embarrassed, party president K. Chiranjeevi has been categorical in repeating that there was no way the Praja Rajyam would ally with the Congress, TDP or the TRS. They had their options open, as far as the other parties were concerned, he said.
