PRP Backs Out From Congress Tie-Up
The alliance between the Congress and the Praja Rajyam for the GHMC polls floundered even before it got off the ground with the AICC leader, Mr Veerappa Moily, stating in Delhi that “there was no tie-up proposal as of now.”
Irked by this, the Praja Rajyam political affairs committee member, Mr Ramachandraiah, announced the party’s decision to withdraw from the proposed alliance.
“We will proceed with our selection of candidates from Tuesday and announce our plan of action for the municipal polls,” he said.
It was the PCC chief, Mr D. Srinivas, who had stated publicly the other day that the tie-up with Praja Rajyam was being undertaken on the instructions of the party high command.
On Monday, Mr Srinivas met the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, at his residence to discuss the latest developments.
“I had told you about the tie-up with Praja Rajyam, but it was not finalised yet and the party high command was kept informed from time to time about the developments,” he told mediapersons later. “It was for the high command to take a decision.”
He added that he had kept the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and the Rajya Sabha member, Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, had also been informed of the developments.
“After all, I have not done anything for myself and there is no selfish interest in this,” he added.
Earlier, the Praja Rajyam leaders had laid much store on Mr Moily’s saying that there was no alliance “as of now”.
“There is still four days left for the filing for nominations,” said one of them.
